"Come On In, Hamilton Davies House was visited by a group of students from Irlam and Cadishead High School this week. Caroline Lightfoot greeted the pupils with some refreshments. The purpose of the visit was to bring in two posters they had created to publicise the facilities at “Moss Farm Fisheries”. You can see by the posters below how much time and effort the students have put in, showing a flare for producing professional material. The Trust were more than happy to display their posters on the notice board in the foyer of Hamilton Davies House to help promote the community fishing lake. Well done to both staff and students and Thank you for taking the time to drop in. more information

Irlam is situated on the north bank of the River Irwell, from which it almost certainly takes its name, being known in the 13th century as Irwellham. Until around the time of the arrival of the Cheshire Lines Committee railway and the opening of Irlam railway station, in 1873, Irlam remained a largely undeveloped village, on the southern edge of the peat bog known as Chat Moss.Irlam Crest

The official Irlam coat of arms (right) was commissioned by the Irlam Urban District Council. You can clearly see flames raising from above the shield the flames represent the the once thriving industry of Irlam Steel Works.
